True religion? New hymn for church?

“Fly Like an Eagle”

 By Steve Miller

(Yeah, he lives in Ketchum, Idaho, north of Hailey. I’ve seen the outside of his crib. We both grew up in Dallas at different times. Then we moved to Hailey. I’m getting random. Sorry.)

Anyway – I’d think this would be fun to sing in church and carry as much meaning. Yeah, I know, social gospel and all that.

Here’s the lyrics.

Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
Into the futureI want to fly like an eagle
To the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly like an eagle
Till I’m free
Oh, lord, through the revolutionFeed the babies
Who don’t have enough to eat
Shoe the children
With no shoes on their feet
House the people
Livin’ in the street
Oh, oh, there’s a solution
I want to fly like an eagle
To the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly like an eagle
Till I’m free
Fly through the revolution

Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
Into the future

I want to fly like an eagle
To the sea
Fly like an eagle
Let my spirit carry me
I want to fly like an eagle
Till I’m free
Fly through the revolution

Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
Into the future
Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin
Into the future

This is going somewhere… Trust me.

There’s a blog entry coming about singing “Shout to the North” at church held in a school library and what was really going through my mind when I knew I was supposed to be praising God.

This thrown in today for good measure on “Following in the Footsteps of Jesus” … http://www.slate.com/id/2181864/
